私は、服や靴をビスポークすることは目的ではなく、手段であるべきだと考えています。特に、本サイトの趣旨である「美しい装い」を目指すにあたって言えることは、ビスポークだから必ず美しくなるわけではなく、それは、美しく装うための1つの手段でしかありません。
I believe that bespoke clothing and shoes should be a means, not a purpose. In particular, when aiming for “dress beautifully” as the purpose of this site, bespoke does not always dress beautifully, but it is just one way to dress beautifully.
ところで、私がハンドクラフトのアイテムを好んでいることは、本サイトにおける私自身の紹介ページである「About」においても記載しています。

記事の執筆時点では、納品されているスーツやジャケットは10着程度、靴については4足ほどのビスポークの経験を有しており、MTMを含めれば更に数は増えます。
At the time of writing, I have about 10 suits and jackets and about 4 pairs of shoes for bespoke, and the number will be further increased if MTM(Made To Measure) is included.
私はビスポークをしたスーツ/ジャケットや靴を自身のインスタグラムやウェブサイトにてご紹介していますので、それらをご覧頂いた方から「私もいつかはビスポークにチャレンジしたい」と言うお言葉頂くことが多々あります。
I have been introducing my bespoke suits/jacket and shoes on my Instagram and on the website, and there were many words from those who read them saying, “I also want to challenge bespoke someday”.
私がまだビスポークの経験が無かった頃には、私もまた、服好きにとって服や靴をビスポークすることは一種の憧れであり、1つのゴールでもあると考えていました。
When I had no experience with bespoke, I also believed that bespoke clothes and shoes was a kind of longing and a goal for fashion lovers.
しかし、多少の経験を踏まえ、そして「美しく装う」と言う自身の装いにおけるコダワリを追及する今に至っては、ビスポークは美しく装うための1つの手段でしかないと考えるようになりました。
However, based on some bespoke experience, and now pursuing a picky in my own attire of “dressing beautifully”, I have come to believe that bespoke is just one tool to dress beautifully.
確かに、本サイトの記事において美しく装うための前提条件として、以下の2つを挙げています。
Certainly, the following two prerequisites for dressing beautifully in my articles on this site are listed.
・適正サイズの服を着る/Wearing the proper size clothes
・正しい着こなしを実践する/ Wearing correctly
「適正サイズの服を着る」と言う記事にも記載の通り、静止している状態で目立つシワが出来ていたり、シルエットが大きく崩れていたり、動きにくいと言う状態なのであれば、それはあなたにとって適正なサイズではないのかもしれません。
As described in the article “Wearing proper size clothes“, if there are noticeable wrinkles while standing still, the silhouette is greatly collapsed, or it is difficult to move, the suit/jacket and trousers may not be the right size for you.
しかし、例え既製品を着ていたとしても、目立つシワが出たり、シルエットが大きく崩れていないのであれば、それはあなたにとって適正なサイズである、もしくは許容されるサイズであると解釈しても全く問題ないと考えています。
However, even if you are wearing a ready-to-wear, if there are no noticeable wrinkles or the silhouette has not been greatly distorted, it is absolutely possible to interpret it as an appropriate size or an acceptable size for you. I think there is no problem.
つまり、美しい着こなしをするために適正サイズの服を着ると言う観点のみで言えば、既製品のスーツやジャケット、パンツを着用した際に、お直しでは対応できないほどの状況になってはじめて、美しく着こなすための手段としてビスポークやMTMを検討すると言うのが、本来あるべきアプローチだと思っています。
In other words, from the standpoint of just dress beautifully by wearing the proper size clothes, you have better to bespoke suit/jacket or trousers, only when you can’t get match your body by repairing ready-to-wear. I think that is the ideal approach to considering bespoke and MTM.
私がそうであったように、服が好きな方がビスポークに憧れる気持ちは理解できますし、それを否定する気は全くありません。しかし、着用している服や靴がビスポークか否かと、それが装いとして美しいか否かは関連性がない、全くの別物だと理解しておく必要があると考えています。
As I did, I understand that those who love clothes yearn for bespoke and I have no intention of denying it. However, I think it is necessary to understand that whether or not the clothes or shoes you wear are bespoke and whether they are beautiful as a dress are irrelevant and completely different things.
- mm単位のサイズの違いは装いとしての美しさに影響するのか/ Does the difference in size in mm affect the beauty as a dress?
では、実際に例を見てみましょう。
Let’s look at an example.
以下の2つの装いのうち、装いの美しさと言う観点でそのレベルに圧倒的に差がある、と感じる方は稀だと思います。
Of the following two attires, it is rare to find that the level of beauty is overwhelmingly different in terms of attire.
実際には左右のうち一方がビスポークで、他方が既製品なのですが、確証を持って、その判断が瞬時につく方がいたら、その方は相当にメンズドレスファッションの分野に精通している方だと思います。
Actually, one of the left and right is bespoke and the other is ready-to-wear, but if there is a person who can answer which one is bespoke wear instantly with certainty, that person is quite familiar with the field of gentlemen’s dress fashion I think.
なお、正解は右がビスポークで、左側が既製品となります。
The correct answer is bespoke on the right and ready-to-wear on the left.
それらを着ている本人としては、その両者において若干のフィッティングの違いは感じるものの、美しさと言う観点で言えば、どちらも個人的に満足できるレベルの美しさを有していると考えています。つまり、mm単位のサイズのフィッティングの違いが装いとしての美しさに大きく影響を与えることはない、そのように思っています。
For me who wear them, although there is a slight difference in fitting between bespoke and ready-to-wear, from the viewpoint of beauty, both have a satisfactory level of beauty personally. That is, I believe that the difference in fitting in the unit of mm does not greatly affect the beauty of the attire.
- 嗜好品としてのビスポーク/Bespoke as a luxury item
ではなぜ私が服や靴をビスポークするのかと言いますと、まず服については上述の通り、ハンドクラフトのアイテムを好んでいると言う、私自身の趣向が大きな理由です。
So why do I bespoke clothing and shoes? First reason is, because my preference is that I love handcrafted items as mentioned above.
また、誰にも頼まれていないにも拘わらず、時間とお金をかけてこのようなサイトを開設、運営している位ですから、ファッションを心から愛していると言うのも、もう1つの大きな理由となります。
Another reason is that I love fashion. In fact, I run such a fashion site a lot of time and money, even though no one has asked me.
自らの好みの生地を、好みのスタイルで、自分自身のためだけに職人に仕立てて貰う。服好きにとって、こんなに贅沢で、幸せなことはありません。
To ask the craftsmen to tailor my favorite fabrics in the style of my choice, just for myself. There is nothing so luxurious and happy for fashion lovers.
日本においては2万円程度から既製品のスーツが購入出来る時代です。わざわざそれの数倍ものお金を費やしてスーツやジャケットをビスポークするのですから、スーツやジャケットをお抱えの職人によってビスポークすることが当たり前の時代ではない今の時代において、服や靴をビスポークすると言う行為は、嗜好品としての存在価値が非常に大きいように思います。
In Japan, we can buy ready-to-wear suits from around 20,000 yen($190). In such a situations, the act of bespoke a suit or jacket by spending several times more money on it, is a kind of hobby in the present era when it is not common to bespoke suit and jacket to familiar craftsmen. Also I think that those are great value as a luxury item.
ちなみに、靴については明確かつ合理的な理由があります。それは、既製品の靴では足が痛くなるからです。
By the way, there are clear and rational reasons for me to bespoke shoes. That’s because ready-to-wear shoes hurt my feet. That means the ready-to-wear shoes unfit for me.
私はビジネスマンですから、仕事上のストレス以外は極力持ちたくはありません。よって、夕方になると足が痛くなり、靴の紐を緩めなくてはならいような既製品の靴ではなく、価格が高くても自らの足に完全にフィットして、痛くなることのないビスポークシューズを誂えることに大きなメリットを感じています。
I’m a businessman, so I don’t want to have anything other than work stress. Therefore, I feel a great advantage in that is not a ready-to-wear shoe, but a bespoke shoes even if it’s expensive. Because ready-to-wear shoes makes my feet hurt in the evening and I often have to loosen the shoelaces.
美しい装いをするにあたって、上述の通り「適正サイズの服を着る」ことは大前提です。しかし、それはmm単位で自らの体にフィットした服を着ると言う意味ではなく、目立つ皺や大きなシルエットが崩れない範囲で、適切なサイズの服を着ると言う意味になります。
As mentioned above, wearing the proper size clothes is a major premise when dressing beautifully. However, it does not mean that you wear clothes that fit your body in mm units, but that you wear clothes of the appropriate size that noticeable wrinkles and large silhouettes do not collapse.
