この記事では、ポケットチーフ（ポケットスクウェア）の折り方について解説します。なお今回解説するのは、カジュアルからビジネス、そしてフォーマルシーンまで対応するTVフォールドを、私がカスタマイズしたバージョンとなります。
This article explains how to fold the pocket square. Especially, I will explain the customized version of the TV fold which can be used from casual to business and formal scene.
- ポケットスクウェアを広げて、平らにします。/Spread the square and flatten it.
- 半分に折ります。/Fold in half.
- もう1度、半分に折ります。/Fold it in half again.
- 更にもう1度、半分に折ります。/Fold it in half again.
- この時、端を綺麗に整えるのではなく、少しずらして折ります。/At this point, do not put the corners together and fold them slightly slide off.
- これを、ポケットスクエアの角が左上に向かうような感じでジャケットのポケットに入れます。また、ポケットから見えるポケットスクウェアが下記の様に三角形に見えるように調整します。/Put this in the pocket of the jacket as if the corner of the square is pointing to the upper left. Adjust so that the square visible from the pocket looks like a triangle as shown below.
- なお、ポケットスクウェアをジャケットの胸ポケットに入れる際に孤を描く様に入れると、立体的になるとともにポケットスクウェアを固定するのにも役立ちます。/When putting squares into the breast pocket of the jacket, putting them in an arc shape will make them three-dimensional and also help to fix the squares.
私が着用しているジャケットの胸ポケットは全て、バルカポケットになっています。バルカポケットはその名の通り、船底のように柔らかくカーブしていますので、直線的なTVフォールドだと私は合わないと感じました。
All the breast pockets of the jacket I am wearing are Barca pocket(boat pocket). As the name suggests, the balca pocket is as soft and curved as the bottom of the ship, so I felt that it would not fit a linear TV fold.
よって、私はバルカポケットに合わせてポケットスクウェアも緩やかにカーブさせる方法の方がカッコ良いと感じ、上記のようにカスタマイズした方法でポケットスクウェアを楽しんでいます。
Therefore, I find it cooler to curve the square gently to fit the balca pocket and I enjoy squares in a customized way as described above.
なお、TVフォールドはフォーマルやビジネスシーンにおいて簡単かつ最適なポケットスクウェアの折り方の1つですが、その表情に固さを感じる場合があります。上述したようなカスタマイズを行うことで、表情が柔らかくなるとともに、カジュアルなスタイルであっても使いやすくなります。
By the way, TV fold is one of the simple and proper ways to fold squares in formal and business situations, but sometimes its expression may feel stiff. By customizing as described above, the expression will be softer and easier to use even in a casual style.
