今日は「心と装いのつながり」と言うテーマを掲げて、「Style Book」コンテンツのドレス編の記事をお送りしたいと思います。
Today, I would like to write an article with the theme of “Relationship between mind and attire”. And in this article, I consider about the effect of mind and attire on each other.
・TPOと装い/Situation and Attire
本日ご紹介するのは、1月初旬の装い。2020年の仕事初めの装いです。新年のスタートに相応しく、この日の東京はとても気持ち良く晴れており、気温は最高気温が12度くらいでした。

新年の仕事始めの日から打ち合わせなどの予定がびっしりと入っている方は稀だとは思うのですが、そういう私も特段の予定はなく、静かな仕事始めを予定していました。よって、服装における制約と言う観点では自由な装いが可能だったのですが、あえて自分の気持ちを引き締めるために、グレーの無地のスーツを着て職場に向かうことにしました。
I think it’s rare for people to have a schedule of meetings etc. from the first day of the New Year’s work, and also I had no special schedule and planned a quiet start of work. Therefore, it was possible to dress freely in terms of restrictions on attires, but in order to tighten my feelings, I decided to go to work with a plain gray suit.
グレーの無地のスーツは私が所有するスーツの中でも最もドレッシーな1着で、Super150’sと言う繊細な糸を使っていますので、光沢感、上質感を感じます。これに、ネイビーカラーのロンドンストライプ柄シャツ、ネイビーカラーのシルクのジャカード織小紋柄ネクタイ、ネイビーカラーのカシミアカーディガンを羽織って、胸にはサックスカラーのリネンのポケットスクエアを入れました。
I selected the gray solid suit what is the dressiest one of the suits I have and it made of a delicate fabric called Super 150’s, so it feels shiny and so fine. In addition, I matched with a navy-colored London striped shirt, a navy-colored silk jacquard small pattern tie, and a navy-colored cashmere cardigan, and put a chest with a sax-colored linen pocket square.
もちろん、足元にもブラックカラーのセミブローグシューズと言う、ドレッシーなモデルを選んでいます。
Of course, I also choose a dress model called black semi-blog shoes at my feet.
・あとがき/ Consideration
日本においては、正月と言うのは特別な季節のイベントの1つです。なお、欧米などでは「メリークリスマス＆ハッピーニューイヤー」と言う言葉を見聞きするように、どちらかと言いますと正月よりもクリスマスがメインです。
In Japan, New Year is a special seasonal event. In Europe and the United States, as you see and hear the words “Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year”, Christmas is more mainstream than New Year.
しかし日本では、正月と言うのは旧年が無事に終わり、新年を迎えたことを祝う行事として昔から親しまれてきました。

よって、そんな正月の休みが終わってからの最初の出勤日である「仕事始め」もまた、会社によって扱いは違っても、ちょっと特別な気持ちで迎えるビジネスマンは少なくないと思います。
Therefore, the beginning of work, which is the first day after the New Year’s holiday is over, make businessmen feel special, even though the day of beginning was handled differently by each company.
私も新年における最初の出勤日は、「また今年も1年頑張って行こうと言う」と気持ちを新たにすることもあって、特別な気持ちで会社に向かいます。よって、予定の有無、仕事の内容を問わず、自分自身を律するために、毎年の仕事始めにはドレス度の高い装いで出勤します。
On my first day of work in the New Year, I go to the company with a special feeling, especially as I renew my feeling that I will do my best again this year. Therefore, regardless of whether I have a plan or what I do, I work on the first working day in a highly dressed attire to control myself.
メンズドレスファッションにおいては、ネイビーとグレーが最もドレス度の高い色合いとなりますが、その両者の間にドレス度における差はありません。よって、どちらの色を選んだとしても十分ドレッシーな装いになるのですが、過去2年ほどはネイビーの無地のスーツで出勤しておりましたので、今年はグレーを選びました。
In gentlemen’s dress fashion, navy and gray are the most dressy shades, but there is no difference in the level of dress between the two. Therefore, whichever color you choose, the attire will be dressy enough, but for the past two years I have started working in a navy plain suit, so I chose gray this year.
常々思っていることですが、私は「心と装いは繋がっている」と考えています。
As I always think, I think “the mind and the attire are connected.”
今回の様に、自分自身の気持ちをしっかりと整えるためにドレス度の高い装いをすることもありますし、逆にドレス度の高い装いをしていると、自然と心が落ち着き、背筋がシャキッとする気持ちになることもあります。
As in this case, I sometimes wear a high level of dress clothing to firmly adjust my feelings.On the other hand, if I wear a high level of dress clothing, my mind naturally calms down and straighten my back.
装いと言うのは表現手段の1つでもあると考えています。その人の内側が自然と外部、つまり装いに現れてくることもありますし、装いによって内面に変化を与えることもあるでしょう。
I think that attire is also one of a means of expression. The inside of the person may appear to the outside(attire) naturally, or the attire may change the inside.
この両者の関係性を上手く活用すれば、言葉に出さずとも相手に伝えたいメッセージが伝わる場合もあるかもしれませんし、自分自身を奮い立たせる必要があるシーン、例えば重要顧客に対するプレゼンテーションのような、において装いが力を貸してくれることもあるかもしれません。
If you make good use of this relationship, you may be able to convey the message that you want to convey to the other party without being verbal. Or in situations where you need to inspire yourself, such as a presentation to a key customer, attire may help you out.
服を着ると言う行為は毎日のことだけに、深く考えることが少ないと思いますが、そんな「心と装いのつながり」について考えてみると、興味深いことが発見できるかもしれません。
