今日は「ビジネスマンが最初にシューズラックに納めるべき3足」と言うテーマを掲げて、コラムをお送りしたいと思います。
Today, I would like to write a column on the theme of “3 shoes that businessmen should put in the shoes rack first”. And in this article, I consider the dress level of shoe models.
- ビジネスに必須の2足/Two essential shoe models for business
先日「ビジネスマンが最初にワードローブに納めるべき3着」と言う記事をお送りしましたが、その中でビジネスマンが揃えるべき3着として私が提案した服の本質は、色や柄等ではく、出来る多くのビジネスシーンをカバーすることだと述べていました。
The other day, in an article entitled “3 clothes that businessmen should put in the wardrobe first”, I said that the essence of the 3 clothes suggested is not the color or pattern, but to cover as many of the business scene as possible.
その理由は、装いは多くのビジネスマンにとってビジネスにおける主役ではなく、ビジネスを成功に導くためのツールであると考えているからです。そしてビジネスを成功に導くためのツールとして装いを適切に使いこなすためのコツの1つが、TPOに適した装いをすることです。
The reason is that an attire is not a business star for many businessmen. However, I believe it can be a powerful tool for business success. And I think that one of the tips for using business wear properly as a tool for business success is dressing up correctly for the situation.
そう言った視点を踏まえてビジネスマンが最初にシューズラックに納めるべき3足を考えてみると、ビジネスに必須の2足と装いの幅を広げる1足を揃えておくと、多くのビジネスシーンに対応出来るのではないかと感じています。
Considering 3 shoes that businessmen should put in the shoe rack first based on such a viewpoint, I think that if you prepare two pairs that are essential for business and one pair that expand the scope of your attire, you can handle many business situations.
最初にご提案する1足は、ブラックカラーのセミブローグシューズです。
The first model I propose is black color semi-brogue shoes.
一般論で言うと、多くの方は1足目にはブラックカラーのストレートチップを揃えるべきだと主張すると思います。しかし私の感性と、これまでの自身のビジネス経験を踏まえて提案するのであれば、セミブローグシューズはストレートチップよりも汎用性が高いと感じています。
Generally speaking, many people argue that the first model should have a black cap-toe oxford. However, if I make suggestions based on my sensitivity and my own business experience, I feel that semi-brogue shoes are more versatile than cap-toe oxford.
確かにメンズドレスファッションにおける最もベーシックな1足としてストレートチップを挙げることに異論はありません。しかしフォーマルシーンに対応するストレートチップは、普段の装いとしては雰囲気がやや堅苦しいと感じます。
Certainly there is no objection to mentioning cap-toe oxford as the most basic pair in gentlemen’s dress fashion. However, the cap-toe oxford that corresponds to the formal scene, I feels somewhat stiff as a normal attire.
ダークネイビーやチャコールグレーのウーステッドウールの無地のスーツを着用する機会が多い方であればストレートチップはベストな選択肢になり得ると思うのですが、そうではないのであれば、セミブローグシューズの方が合わせられるスタイルの幅は広いと考えています。
If you often wear a plain worsted wool suit of dark navy or charcoal gray, I think cap-toe oxford can be the best option, but if not, semi-brogue shoes are more better because of high versatility.
ブラックカラーのセミブローグシューズは重要な商談だけではなく、普段のビジネスシーンにおいても対応が可能ですし、余程格式高い場合を除けば、結婚式や葬式と言った冠婚葬祭にも大きな問題なく使えるのではないでしょうか。

Black color semi-brogue shoes can be used not only for important meetings but also for everyday business situations, and can be used without big problems in weddings and funerals except in prestigious cases.
※If you own cap-toe oxford, it is recommended to select it in ceremonial occasions（Especially at funerals）.
そしてもう1足ビジネスマンにとっての必須のモデルを挙げるとしたら、それはブラウンカラーのパンチドキャップトゥ/クォーターブローグです。
And another essential model for a businessman is a brown punched cap-toe / quarter-brogue.
パンチドキャップトゥはストレートチップに比べるとややカジュアルですが、セミブローグやフルブローグに比べるとドレッシーなモデルになります。それはメダリオンやパーフォレーションと言った穴飾りが控え目であることからもお分かり頂けるかと思います。
The punched cap-toe is slightly more casual than a cap-toe oxford, but it is more dress than a semi-brogue or full-brogue. As you can see that the medallions and perforations are modest.
例えばネイビーやチャコールグレーのスーツに、ブラウンカラーのネクタイを合わせる場合が多々あると思います。ブラウンのネクタイにブラックカラーのセミブローグシューズを合わせると、装いとして違和感を覚えます。
For example, I think there are many cases where a brown color tie is combined with a navy or charcoal gray suit. If I combine a brown tie with black semi-blog shoes, I may feel uncomfortable as an attire.
ブラウンのネクタイにはブラウンの靴を合わせる方が、装いとしてのバランスが良くなると私は感じています。
Matching brown shoes with brown ties will improve the balance of the attire.
また、ブラウンやベージュのジャケットを着てネクタイを締めるカジュアルなスタイルの場合には、ブラックの靴ではなく、ブラウンの方が間違いなくフィットします。
Also, in the sporty style of wearing a brown or beige jacket and tie a tie, brown will definitely fit rather than black shoes.
ブラウンはカジュアルな色ですが、パンチドキャップトゥはドレッシーなモデルなので、上述したスーツスタイルはもちろん、ジャケパンスタイルであっても合わせることが出来るのです。
Brown is a casual color, but punched cap-toe is a dressy model, so you can match it with the suit style described above or even the jacket style.
なお、職場の服装規定がさほど厳しくない場合には、ブラウンカラーのパンチドキャップトゥの代わりに、ダークブラウンカラーのセミブローグシューズを選んでも良いかもしれません。
If your dress code is not very strict, you can select dark brown semi-blog shoes instead of brown punched cap-toe.
一般的なビジネスであれば、上記2つのモデルさえ所有しておけばカバーできないシーンはないと私は考えています。
For a typical business, if you own these two shoe models, there are no situations you can’t support.

その上でもう1足所有するのであれば、個人的にはダークブラウンカラーのローファーを挙げたいと思います。
In addition, I would like you to recommend a dark brown loafer as third pair of shoes.
これはスーツスタイルではなく、ジャケパンスタイルであったり、夏場のネクタイをしないクールビズスタイルであったりと言う、よりカジュアルなビジネスシーンに対応することを想定しています。
This shoe model is not for a suit style, but for a sporty style like a jacket style or a cool biz style without a tie in summer.
私はブラウンやベージュのスーツ、モードなデザイン的な特徴を有するような一部のスーツを除いて、スーツにローファーを合わせることはあまり好んではいません。やはりスーツにはシューレースタイプの靴を合わせるのが最も美しいと考えているからです。
I don’t really like matching loafers to suits, except for brown and beige suits or some mode design suits. Because, I believe that it is most beautiful attire to match dress shoes with suits.
しかしジャケパンスタイルであったり、ネクタイをしないようなカジュアルなスタイルであったりする場合には、好んでローファーを合わせています。
However, I choose a loafer when I select jacket style or sporty style that doesn’t require a tie.
スーツには重厚感を感じますが、それに比べると軽快感のあるスタイルであるジャケパンスタイルには、ローファーの持つ軽やかさがぴったりとフィットするように思います。またローファーが1足あると、ジャケットを着用しないポロシャツにチノパンのような軽装であっても違和感なく合わせることが出来ますので、ビジネスにおける装いの幅がぐっと広がります。
A loafer has light feelings. Therefore, it fits in a lighter-looking jacket style than a profound suit style. And also if you have a pair of loafers, you can match it with the jacketless style like a polo shirt and chino trousers style without discomfort. In other words, the range of attire in the business is greatly expanded.
なお、色をダークブラウンとしているのは、ドレッシーにもスポーティにも履き着こなすことが出来る色だと考えているからです。
The reason why I suggest dark brown color is that it is a color that can be worn by both dressy and sporty.
例えば、ネイビーのジャケットにグレーのウールパンツを合わせて、ブルーのネクタイを締める場合には、本来はブラックカラーのタッセルローファーなどがベストフィットするように思います。この時、色がブラウンだと靴が浮いてしまう気がしますが、ダークブラウンであれば大きな違和感を覚えることなく、装うことが出来ます。
For example, if you wear gray wool trousers with a navy jacket and tie a blue tie, a black tassel loafer may fit best. At this time, if you select brown loafer, you may feel uncomfortable, but if you choose dark brown one, you can wear it without much discomfort.
また、ベージュのジャケットにブラウンのウールパンツを合わせて、ライトブラウンのネクタイを締めるようなスポーティなスタイルの場合には、当然ながらブラックよりもブラウンのローファーの方がフィットします。この場合、例えこれがダークブラウンであったとしても、スタイルとして破綻することはありません。
For sporty styles, such as wearing a beige jacket and brown wool trousers and tie a light brown tie, a brown loafer will fit better than a black one. However, even if this is dark brown, it will not break down as a style.
つまり、ダークブラウンと言う色はドレスにもスポーティにも対応しうる幅の広さがあると言う理由で、まず持つべきローファーの色として推奨しています。
That is, the dark brown is recommended as the color of the loafers to have first, because it is wide enough to accommodate both dress and sporty style.
